The Property
202 Reading Ave is a stunning Victorian-era two-story home in the heart of Barrington, NJ, featuring a wrap-around covered front porch, original stained glass transom windows, ornate original staircase with carved newel post, a sunroom enclosed with original multi-pane windows, and a large rear deck with white vinyl railing. The exterior was left to shine on its own the bones of this home are exceptional and needed no major work.
The goal was simple: modernize the interior completely while letting the original character of the home tell its own story.
Kitchen Renovation
The kitchen received a full gut renovation. White shaker cabinets were installed floor to ceiling, paired with white quartz countertops and a marble mosaic tile backsplash. A full stainless steel appliance package was installed including a gas range, over-the-range microwave, French door refrigerator, and dishwasher. Brushed gold hardware and a brushed nickel pull-down faucet complete the look. New recessed LED lighting was added throughout, brightening the space and opening it up to the adjacent living and dining areas. The original hardwood floors were refinished to a rich dark stain, grounding the bright white cabinetry beautifully.
Bathroom & Half Bath Renovation
Both bathrooms were fully gutted and rebuilt with a cohesive coastal-modern design. Beadboard wainscoting was installed halfway up the walls in both rooms, honoring the home's Victorian roots while delivering a fresh, clean aesthetic. Wood-look vanities with white quartz tops and undermount sinks were installed alongside matte black faucets, toilet paper holders, and towel rings. Large round black-framed mirrors and industrial vanity lighting add a modern edge. The full bathroom features a new soaking tub with white subway tile surround floor to ceiling, with built-in matte black corner shelving for storage. All new toilets and updated plumbing throughout.
Flooring Throughout
New flooring was installed on every level of the home. The main living areas and bedrooms received refinished original hardwood floors in a rich dark stain. The living room features new luxury vinyl plank flooring in a warm tone that complements the wood-burning fireplace and arched windows. The upper-level bonus room with vaulted ceilings and skylights was finished with plush neutral carpet, creating a comfortable retreat.
